## Unit 4

### Unit Overview

In this unit, students extend previous knowledge from earlier courses regarding quadratic functions. Students investigate and analyze quadratic functions numerically, algebraically, and graphically. Students examine quadratic equations in vertex form and standard form and explore the equivalency of those quadratic equations. Properties of quadratic functions, including transformations, domain, range, vertex, minimum value, maximum value, axis of symmetry, and intercepts are explored. Students solve quadratic equations numerically using a table of values; algebraically using square root method, factoring, the zero-product principle, and the quadratic formula; and graphically by hand and using the graphing calculator. Students determine appropriate quadratic regression models and interpolate and extrapolate data based on those models. The simplification of radicals and radical expressions using radical properties was introduced in Geometry and is reinforced throughout this unit. Students explore relationships between quadratic functions and square root functions and determine that they are inverse functions.
