students reading It is the responsibility of the Montgomery County Board of Education Policy Management Committee to meet and develop or revise MCPS policy as necessary. The committee meets with appropriate staff to develop a draft policy (or to make revisions to policy) which it then presents to the Board for discussion and action.

Current Policies for Public Comment

Policy GHC, Salaries and Other Benefits of Professional Personnel 

On October 14, 2014, the Board of Education (Board) tentatively adopted Policy GHC, Salaries and Other Benefits of Professional Personnel. The policy provides guidelines for salary schedules, anniversary dates, and rehiring employees returning after having resigned. The policy has been updated to align with negotiated agreements and current practice. Additional non-substantive edits update directory information and references to current law.

Individuals who wish to provide comments should respond in writing by December 19, 2014. All responses should be sent to the Office of the Superintendent of Schools, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville, Maryland 20850 or to the Board of Education at boe@mcpsmd.org. All responses will be shared with the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools.

Policy GIH, Funding Other Post-Employment Benefits 

On October 14, 2014, the Board of Education (Board) tentatively adopted Policy GIH, Funding Other Post-Employment Benefits. The policy sets for the priorities of the Board regarding funding of post-employment health benefits for eligible retirees, also known as Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB). The policy has been updated to align with actions taken by the County Council related to Montgomery County Public Schools’ trust to fund the current retiree OPEB and contributing money to the countywide trust.
