Employment and Salary Verification

MCPS is pleased to offer The Work Number, an automated employment verification service that allows employees to have employment and salary information verified within minutes.

This fast, secure service is used for mortgage applications, reference checks, loan applications, and apartment leases—anything that requires proof of employment. To access this service, call 1-800-996-7566 or contact The Work Number using their Web site at www.theworknumber.com.

The Work Number is quick, accurate, and there is no charge to employees. Information is provided directly to the lender/verifier.

Effective June 26, 2010: When you log into The Work Number for employment verification activities, you will have a one-time initial enrollment after you enter your user ID and password. This additional level of security is being added as a step to continually improve the privacy of your information. You’ll likely be familiar with the format as it is one currently used by many leading financial institutions to better ensure users are who they say they are. What information will be provided to the lender?

Basic Verification (Usually required for reference checks)

  • First name, middle initial, and last name spelled out
  • Current Employment status
  • Most recent start or termination date
  • Total time with MCPS
  • Job title
  • Reference Number

Full Verification

  • All Basic Information PLUS:
  • Total rate of pay
  • Gross earnings year to date with a breakdown for overtime
  • Gross earnings for prior two years

What is required to access the information?

To access Basic Information, provide the lender/verifier with:

How is a Salary Key obtained?

Dial 1-800-EMP-AUTH to access the Employee Service Line or visit The Work Number's Web site at www.theworknumber.com.

When prompted, enter:

Montgomery County Public Schools: Code 10454
Your Social Security Number
Your PIN (your employee identification number is your PIN, and is located on your pay advice)

Record the six-digit Salary Key for future reference. The salary key is provided to the lender/verifier for Full Information access.
 

How do I verify previous employment with MCPS?

Employees who require verification of previous employment should contact the Employee and Retiree Service Center. Requests should be mailed to the Employee and Retiree Service Center, Attn: Employment Verification.
