Work-Based Learning
Apprenticeship for Students
Apprenticeships offer students the opportunity to work for an employer earning at least minimum wage and gaining in-demand job skills that often lead to full time employment with opportunities to complete skilled training.
Student Responsibilities
- Students must complete the program prior to graduating high school.
- Students must complete 450 hours of work-based training and one year of related classroom instruction.
- Students must complete and submit all required forms by the specified deadlines.
- Students must report to their apprenticeship site on time and prepared to work.
Eligibility to Apply
Criteria:
- A highly motivated and responsible student
- Age 16 or older
- A rising junior or senior currently enrolled in an MCPS high school
- In possession of a Social Security or I-9 number
- Able to coordinate public or personal transportation to and from a work site
