Reading Interventions

About Us

The goal of reading intervention is to empower every reader to employ strategies to be successful with challenging text. Reading intervention instruction targets an area of identified need and is provided in addition to core instruction.

Elementary Reading Intervention 

The best prevention for intervention is good first teaching. The MCPS Reading/Language Arts Instructional Guides, with emphasis on effective small group reading instruction, are proven successful teaching tools. Careful diagnosis and analysis of student performance identifies what is working and what is not working to inform intervention instruction within the five components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Secondary Reading Intervention 

MCPS offers several options to support secondary students’ reading development.  These reading interventions meet in addition to students’ regularly scheduled English classes  The following comprehensive reading interventions are available to secondary students.
