Middle school students in the IGNITE Summer School program are spending their summer mornings exploring science, solving math challenges, discovering future careers and learning alongside their peers.

“I really enjoy the fun activities we do with partners and groups,” said rising sixth-grader Camila.

Offered at six middle schools, the program combines project-based learning with engaging, hands-on experiences to help students build confidence for the next school year and strengthen their skills in Math, English and STEM. From virtual reality activities to college and career exploration, each day gives students opportunities to connect classroom learning to real-world experiences.

Students are discovering new interests while building skills across a variety of subjects.

“I’m really excited about learning science,” said rising sixth-grader Isabella.

“I like learning about science and the history of Ancient Greece and Rome,” said rising sixth-grader Ava.

“I’m learning about multiplication and ratios,” said rising sixth-grader Aabha.

Students are also making connections between classroom learning and future careers. Rising seventh-grader CJ, who hopes to become a doctor, has enjoyed exploring medical careers, learning about treatments for venomous snake bites and participating in anatomy lessons. Meanwhile, rising seventh-grader Neva recently used playdough to model how blood flows through blood vessels and how sickle cell disease can lead to blood clots.

Whether they are modeling blood cells, exploring careers in medicine or solving math challenges with classmates, IGNITE students are learning by doing while building the knowledge and confidence they'll carry into the new school year.
