Beginning in the 2027–2028 school year, high schools will be organized into six geographic regions. Each region will offer a range of academic programs aligned to student interests and future opportunities, allowing more students to participate in specialized programs closer to home.
Families and students are encouraged to learn about their local high school options before high school. Program information is currently being developed and finalized; offerings, requirements, and details are subject to change.
MCPS is implementing a six-region high school program model beginning in 2027–28 to expand access, increase opportunities, and ensure all students have additional high-quality programs closer to home.
Based on feedback received during program analysis efforts, there are five themes of programs available to students in each region. Each theme is broken down into different programs.
MCPS will use six regions to provide thematic offerings to help reduce the distance students need to travel to acess special programs. Each region will offer a combination of programs within all themes, including both criteria and interest-based programs.
