Barnsley Student Wins Third in National Essay Contest

Gianna Gerner, fourth grader at Lucy V. Barnsley Elementary School, won third place in the “Imagine the Future: America at 300” national essay contest (for grades K–5). As the U.S. turns 250 years old on July 4, 2026, it’s an occasion to celebrate the past. Yet, it is also an opportunity to imagine the future. The contest asked students to dream of what the United States — and the world — might be like on July 4, 2076, when America turns 300 years old.
