The Montgomery County Commission for Women (CFW) announced the winners of its ninth annual “Girl Power Contest,” which celebrates women's achievements and shares their perspective in honor of Women’s History Month.

This year's contests asked participants to reflect on the prompt: “Women past and present have shown incredible, real-life superpowers. Who inspires you, whether a historical figure, family member, neighbor or advocate, and how did she use her powers to make a difference?” Participants could submit essays, poems, drawings or songs.

Winners were selected in four categories: elementary school, middle school, high school and adult. First place winners were: Ada Ahuja-VanTassel (elementary school), Kalyani Mishra from Julius West Middle School and Eliana Cortez from Thomas S. Wootton High School. Honorable mentions were awarded to Eldana Tilahun from Chevy Chase Elementary School, Jeevika Prabu from Roberto W. Clemente Middle School and Ishita Singh from Poolesville High School.

Winners were recognized at a June 11 ceremony. Read the winning entries.
