Extended school year (ESY) means an individualized extension of specific services beyond the regular school year that is designed to meet the specific goals included in a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). ESY services vary in intensity, location, inclusion of related services, and length of time, depending upon the student’s needs. ESY services are provided at no cost to the parents as part of a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), in accordance with the IEP, for students exhibiting the need for special education, related services, or both, beyond the regular school year. To receive FAPE, some students may require services beyond the regular school year. ESY services are necessary only when the benefits a child with a disability gains during the regular school year will be significantly jeopardized if the child is not provided with an educational program during the summer months.
Provide special education and transportation services for qualified students during the Extended School Year Services.
