Frederick Health Hospital (FHH) suffered a ransomware attack on January 27, 2025, and has been unable to issue birth certificates for its newborns since.
As a result, for those born at FHH since January 26, 2025, the Employee and Retiree Service Center (ERSC) has extended its birth certificate submission deadline. Parents of affected newborns will have at least 60 days after the birth to enroll their newborn in benefits and submit a copy of the newborn’s birth certificate and Social Security card to ERSC. New parents are normally required to enroll their newborn in benefits and submit their birth certificate and Social Security card within 30 days of the birth.
Parents also have the option of requesting their newborn’s birth certification from the Maryland Department of Health’s Division of Vital Records.
