Extended Learning Opportunities Summer Adventures in Learning

July 13 - August 7, 2020

Extended Learning Opportunities Summer Adventures in Learning (ELO SAIL) is a five-week summer program available to rising K–5 students who are enrolled in Title I schools for the 2020–2021 school year. All rising K–2 students are invited to participate. Identified Grades 3–5 students will be invited to participate. Transportation to and from the program from established neighborhood stops, as well as breakfast and lunch, are provided to students free of charge.

All schools will have a 6.5 hour program each day. Bell times vary by school. Students will engage in literacy and mathematics instruction during the morning portion of the program. The afternoon expands curricula offerings to include arts and sciences, and promotes hands-on, exploratory learning. ELO SAIL is designed to provide a high-quality learning experience that will prepare students for the start of the school year.

The Maryland State Department of Education has identified eight schools to participate in the Learning in Extended Academic Programs (LEAP) Grant. Rising Grade 2 students only at the identified schools will participate in a six-week program. The ELO LEAP dates are June 26 - August 7.  ELO LEAP schools are:

  • Gaithersburg, Harmony Hills, Highland, JoAnn Leleck at Broad Acres, Sargent Shriver, South Lake, New Hampshire Estates, and Wheaton Woods elementary schools

Rising Grades K and 1 students at the above schools will attend ELO SAIL from July 13 - August 7.
