About the Program

Participating Private Schools

Since the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was first passed in 1965, eligible private school students and teachers have been able to participate in certain federally funded education programs. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which reauthorized ESEA in 2015, continues this support by requiring equitable services through several federal education programs.

Title I is one of these programs. Under Title I, eligible private school students may receive equitable services.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) partners with participating private (non-public) schools in Montgomery County to provide equitable, federally funded educational support to students who need extra assistance in reading and math.

Important Note: Title I services are provided directly to eligible students and educators to support academic growth, not as financial funding to the private schools themselves.

 

How Title I Support Works in Private Schools

All participating private schools operate a targeted assistance program. This means that services are provided only to students identified as needing additional academic support.

 

What does instruction look like?

  • Direct Instruction:  MCPS Title I teachers provide additional reading and mathematics instruction to eligible students during the school day at their private school. 
  • Personalized Attention: Lessons are delivered through one-on-one or small-group lessons that are designed to meet each student's academic needs.

 

Partnering with Families

We believe student success relies on a strong bridge between school and home. MCPS Title I teachers actively partner with families by offering:

  • Parent & Family Events: Interactive workshops to help you understand your child’s academic progress.
  • Home Learning Resources: Practical strategies and materials to reinforce reading and math skills outside the classroom.

These Non-Public schools have students who meet academic or financial requirements and live in the boundaries of a Montgomery County Public Schools Title I school. Administrators meet on a regular basis throughout the year to plan and evaluate programs.

  • Intent to Participate: September 18, 2026 – Deadline for private schools to submit their Intent to Participate for the 2027-2028 school year.
  • Consultation for Participating Non-Public Schools - Bimonthly
