Voluntary/Involuntary Paraeducator Transfer Season 

Each spring the paraeducator transfer season occurs, providing permanent employees the opportunity to transfer to other schools and locations. In addition, employees returning from leave or those who have been involuntarily transferred have an opportunity to interview for vacancies for which they are qualified and interested.

Paraeducator Involuntary Transfer Meeting 

Tuesday, April 3, 2018: 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Gaithersburg High School.  This meeting is only for paraeducators who have been involuntarily transferred or had a reduction in hours. 

Important Dates

Wednesday, April 4 – Wednesday, May 16, 2018: Voluntary transfer season.  Both voluntary and involuntary candidates compete for positions during this time.  Paraeducators are allowed to transfer during this period, but are not allowed to increase their hours; however, they may voluntarily decrease their hours.   Hiring from outside or from current temporary employees will not be allowed. 

Wednesday, May 16, 2018: Voluntary transfer season temporarily closes at 5:00 p.m. 

Monday, May 21 – Friday, May 25, 2018: Principals may only select paraeducators from the involuntary transfer. 

Tuesday, May 29 – Wednesday, May 30, 2018: No recommendations for hire will be accepted for open paraeducator positions. 

Thursday, May 31 – Friday, June 1, 2018: Notification of assignments of paraeducator priority assignments. 

Monday, June 4 – Friday, August 31, 2018: Voluntary transfer season reopens.  Current paraeducators, employees seeking paraeducator positions, and external candidates interested in paraeducator positions are eligible to apply and be recommended for hire into paraeducator positions.  During this time paraeducators may change work locations, increase hours, and decrease hours.  External candidates may also be hired into paraeducator positions.
