Building Our Future Together

The New Teacher Induction program is excited to announce plans for the 2018 New Educator Orientation (NEO). Educators hired by MCPS for the 2018-2019 school year and/or educators hired after August 18, 2017, are expected to attend.  NEO is specifically designed to introduce educators to the MCPS curriculum and the latest on-going assessment methods. In addition, educators will learn how to create and maintain a positive classroom environment, honor diversity, and integrate students of all abilities and learning levels (including English Language Learners) in classroom instruction. Data from the last four years indicate that over 95 percent of attendees recommend NEO for new educators.

NEO will be held over three days from August 21 to August 23, 2018. The general sessions will occur at two sites on August 21, 2018 from 7:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and on August 22, 2018 from 7:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. New special education teachers will attend a third day of training on the Special Education Day (August 23, 2018) from 7:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. NEO attendees will be paid for your participation. The pay for August 21, 2018 will be paid at your daily rate of pay for your annual salary. The pay for August 22, 2018 and August 23, 2018 (just for Special Educators) will be a daily NEO stipend of $120.00. Please check the Frequently Asked Questions for more details.

All educators are requested to park in the parking lot of the school where they are attending NEO. See the Frequently Asked Questions(PDF) for more details.
