Pre-Retirement Planning Seminars for members of the State Teachers Retirement and Pension Plans

Pre-retirement planning seminars are scheduled for members of the state teachers plan and their spouses who are within eight years of retirement. The seminar begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m.

Topics to be discussed include but are not limited to: Social Security and health benefits, legal considerations, and financial planning.

Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. The seminars are limited to 65 participants, including spouses. You will receive written confirmation within seven working days.

State of Maryland Retirement Agency Personal Counseling Sessions

The State of Maryland Retirement Agency (SRA) will offer personal counseling sessions for employees considering retirement in 2012.

Please contact the SRA directly at 1-800-492-5909 to schedule an appointment.   

In preparation for the state counseling session, please file for Form 9--Application for an Estimate of Service Retirement Allowance. Please allow 6-8 weeks to receive your state estimate from the SRA. You need to have your estimate available to participate in the counseling session. 

The SRA publication The Mentor provides information on SRA-sponsored pre-retirement seminars and a retirement checklist for members within 12 months of retirement. Additionally, the SRA publishes a bi-annual publication Retiree News and Notes that provides helpful information for "soon-to-be" and current retirees.

Counseling sessions will be held at the Employee and Retiree Service Center between the hours of 9am-4:15pm on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, February 7
  • Friday, March 9
  • Wednesday, April 4
  • Wednesday, May 2
  • Tuesday, June 5
