We promote academic achievement, athletic excellence, positive sportsmanship, and upstanding citizenship by providing the greatest education-based interscholastic athletics program.

Mission

Every student will attain the mental, moral, physical, and social-emotional skills to excel in the classroom, community, and the realm of competition.

Purpose

To provide an innovative education-based interscholastic athletics program that maximizes diverse participation through a commitment to equity and access.


On-line Athletic Registration

  • Our first year utilizing the myMCPS Parent Portal for on-line athletic registration was an amazing success!! Look out for the registration portal to re-open in July, for student athletes to register for the 2018-19 fall sports season. #RAISE

Upcoming Events

  • The 4A Softball State Finals are set for this Saturday, May 26, 2018 at The University Of Maryland Softball Complex, starting at 3:30 pm. Full details can be found at mpssaa.org. Best of luck to Northwest, let's go Jags!! 

  • The Boys' Tennis Regional Tournament action has concluded and our student athletes are on to the state championship tournament being held at Wilde Lake Tennis Club in Columbia, MD, May 25-26.

  • The Track & Field State Championship meet takes place Thursday - Saturday, May 24-26, in Hughes Stadium at Morgan State University. Visit mpssaa.org for more details. Good luck to all our student athletes! 

  • Mark your calendars with the 2018-19 fall sports start date: Optional start day - Wednesday August 8, 2018; Mandatory start day Saturday August 11. Check with your local school for specific sports, dates & times.

Sports Spotlight

  • Congratulations to Walter Johnson for winning the Boys' Volleyball County Championship and to Churchill for winning the Coed Volleyball County Championships! 

  • Congratulations to the Wootton Patriots for winning the 2018 Boys' Tennis County Championship and also to all singles and doubles champions!

  • The B-CC Barons won their first ever Allied Softball County Championship! Congrats B-CC!

  • Northwest won both Girls' and Boy's Track & Field team titles at the 2018 MCPS County Championships! Go Jags!

  • Congrats to the Poolesville Lady Falcons for winning their first ever 2A Girls State Basketball Championship!! What a way to end their perfect 27-0 season!! Awesome job ladies.

  • Swim & Dive ended with our schools clenching state championships in both divisions. Congrats to 4A/3A Boys State Champs, Churchill and Girls State Champs, Sherwood. Awesome job Poolesville for winning both the Girls (7th consecutive) and Boys (4th consecutive) 3A/2A/1A state swim & dive titles. Our student athletes are amazing!!!

  • Shout out to the Walter Johnson Girls Indoor Track & Field team for winning this years 4A state title, way to wow them Wildcats

  • Way to go Northwest Boys Indoor Track & Field team, winning their 5th consecutive state title, Five-tastic!!

  • Congratulations to the 2018 MCPS Bocce Champions - Walt Whitman!! Very nice Vikings!!

  • Damascus has been crowned the 2A Wrestling State Champs for the 6TH YEAR IN A ROW!! Way to sting the competition hornets!!

  • Northwest Volleyball team member, Jenaisya Moore has been named Maryland Volleyball Player of the Year for 2017-18!! Awesome job, keep "serving" up those "aces".

  • History has been made with Gaithersburg High Schools, Lily Schelling, winning the first ever Maryland State Girls Wrestling Championship. Simply amazing!!!

  • Shout out to all our Pompon Championship finalists, all of the performances were amazing!! Here are our first place and spirit award winners: Division III: 1st - Gaithersburg, Spirit - Wheaton; Division II: 1st - Einstein, Spirit - B-CC; Division I: 1st - Poolesville, Spirit - Rockville. 

  • Congrats to the Damascus Varsity Football team for winning the Class 2A Football Championship for the 3rd year in a row!! The 3-peat is so sweet, amazing job Hornets!!
  • Shout out to the Quince Orchard High School Football team for an amazing season, placing 2nd overall in the state, class 4A football rankings.Those courageous Cougars are awesome!!
  • Congratulations to the B-CC Boys Soccer team for winning the State Boys Soccer Class 4A Championship!! Way to go Barons!!
  • Congratulations to the Northwest High School Girls Volleyball team for clenching the State Girls Volleyball 4A Championship!! Awesome job Jaguars!!
  • Way to go Damascus Cheerleaders for placing 3rd overall in the 1A/2A division, in MCPS's first ever showing at the state cheer competition. Way to set the tone Hornets!!
  • 2017-18 High School Athletic Schedules are available on the County Sports Zone website!!! 
  • Middle School Athletic Schedules for 2017-18 are available under the Events tab of the MCPS Athletics website.
