Challenge Dates:

  • Team registration opens: Monday, March 5, 2018 
  • Challenge begins: Monday, March 12, 2018 
  • Challenge ends: Sunday, May 20, 2018  

It is time to join the first annual MCPS Grand Prix wellness challenge. You have heard of the Daytona and the Indy 500, well now it’s your chance to speed around the racetrack to the checkered flag.

The goal for this challenge is two-fold: Increase your cardiovascular activity! Go from 0 to 60 (minutes per day, or 60 plus minutes on most days of the week.)   And chose a race track and complete the track miles with corresponding hours of activity.  


 For adults, regular aerobic exercise leads to: 

  • Improved cardio-respiratory fitness (heart, lungs, blood vessels) 
  • Improved muscular fitness 
  • Lower risk of coronary heart disease and stroke 
  • Lower risk of high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes 
  • Lower risk of high cholesterol and triglycerides 
  • Lower risk of colon and breast cancer, and possibly lung and endometrial cancer 
  • Increased bone density or a slower loss of density 
  • Reduced depression and better quality sleep 
  • Weight control

All Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) staff members are eligible to participate in the MCPS Grand Prix challenge, including elementary, secondary, transportation, and central services staff members. Participants will log their activity throughout the 10-week challenge and track their progress using the online Well Aware Fitness Log. Based on participation, you will be eligible to win prizes for yourself, your team, and your school or office.

The online Well Aware Fitness Log is available to you 24/7, so log your activity at any time!

Wellness challenges make use of the free online activity and nutrition tracker, the Well Aware Fitness Log. Registration for the log is free to all employees and can be done at any time, even if there is not an active wellness challenge.
