MLK-day.jpg

MCPS annually recognizes Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) with a week of service projects and acts of kindness in schools from Jan. 17-25, 2026.

All schools are encouraged to host one of the following service experiences:

  • School teachers/staff members lead their students through the MCPS Student Service Learning (SSL) districtwide “Fighting Hunger” advocacy opportunity as a class or group.
  • School teachers/staff members host a schoolwide or classwide service event; collaborate with the Parent, Teacher, Student Association to host a service event; invite a local non-profit organization to support a school service event; or allow a school club or organization to lead this endeavor.

Any MCPS staff member may host a service project for students during the MLK Week of Service. For service projects completed during the school day, secondary school staff should complete and submit MCPS Form 560-59 to SSL@mcpsmd.org.

A one-hour, virtual planning workshop for staff will be held from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3 and Thursday, Dec. 11. Sign up on PDO, course #94019. More information
