Paraeducators Who Have Been Involuntarily Transferred

Important dates:

Tuesday, April 10, 2012: Involuntary Transfer meeting held.  Location: OHRD Maple Conference Room, 45 West Gude Drive, Suite 1100, Rockville, MD,  Time:  4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  This meeting is only for paraeducators who have been involuntarily transferred or paraeducators who would like to voluntarily transfer to a new school.

Tuesday, April 10 – Monday, May 21, 2012: Voluntary transfer season closes on May 21, 2012.  Both voluntary and involuntary candidates compete for positions during this time.  Principals will begin to make recommendations to the Department of Recruitment and Staffing on candidates selected for positions.

Tuesday, May 22– Friday June 8, 2012: Involuntary transfer season.  Principal’s will be selecting paraeducators from the involuntary transfer list available on the principal A&S folder in Outlook.

Monday, June 11– Friday, June 29, 2012: Placement of remaining involuntary paraeducators will be made at this time.  

Procedures for Transfers

  • All involuntary and voluntary paraeducator transfers are eligible to apply for vacant positions posted on MCPS Careers (www.mcpscareers.org).
  • To apply online, download a current resume to your candidate profile on MCPS Careers. (This information will be available to all prospective Hiring Managers so they may review your qualifications.)
  • Paraeducators who want to voluntary transfer also are eligible to apply for posted vacancies on MCPS Careers (www.mcpscareers.org) but will not be allowed to increase their hours. However, they may apply to a position that would reduce their hours.
  • Promotional opportunities into paraeducator positions will not be allowed during April 10 through May 21, 2012, with the exception of paraeducators moving into special education paraeducator positions.

Directions for Using MCPS Careers

  1. Access your account in the Current Employees portal.
  2. Log into your profile by using your MCPS Outlook username and password.
  3. Update your information and download a current resume.
  4. Select the Job Search tab.
  5. Click on the Show Search Criteria button and type Paraeducator under the Keyword search box or select Paraeducator from the Job Field drop down.
