WELCOME TO MCPS!  We hope you will take a moment to check out our certification website.  It contains a wealth of information related to your certification needs, salary advancement, local requirements and much, much more. Please contact a member of the Certification Unit  with any and all questions about your Maryland Educator Certificate, local MCPS contingencies, salary advancement, course applicability, and equivalent credit applicability. NOTE: Information given by any other office or MCPS employee may not pertain to your specific needs or circumstances. 
URGENT NOTICE:  If you are new to Maryland and do not hold OR have never held a Maryland Educator Certificate and haven't already done so, please create your portal username and password ONLY so that you will be able to download your Maryland certificate when it is issued. To complete the Application for Certification please download, complete, initial the Affirmation Statement, sign, and submit the application ONLY (no additional documents or fee needed at this time) to the MCPS Certification Unit.
Orange arrowImportant Notice for all NEW MCPS EducatorsWelcome to MCPS!  Please be sure to finish all of your onboarding steps and new hire certification processes as directed.  In particular, review the items under Getting Started on the New MCPS Educators certification information page.  Now that you are an MCPS educator, we will oversee everything related to your certification needs and you should no longer be in contact with MSDE.

 Icon - star yellowPlease be sure that you have reviewed and completed all the instructions on the Step-by-Step for New MCPS Educators document (see link below under Getting Started), especially the general timeline so you are aware of the time it takes to review, notify, and process all new MCPS educators.

Sometime during the school year, you will receive an Outlook email with attached certification information specific to you from the Certification Unit.  The notification will contain your specific certification status and any needs, requirements, contingencies and/or outstanding documentation that you might have.  As a reminder, Outlook emails expire after 29 days, so make sure you keep a copy of the certification information that will be sent to you and contact our office with any questions.  Always read any notification or email that you receive from the Certification Unit and respond accordingly Have a great year with MCPS!
