Summer RISE is an initiative led by Montgomery County Public Schools in collaboration with businesses, government agencies, higher education institutions, and nonprofit organizations. The program is for rising MCPS juniors and seniors to participate in a career-based learning opportunity during the summer. Students will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning opportunities related to their field of interest. Click here to read more and apply.

Student Service Learning - January 2026

All MCPS students must earn 75 SSL hours to graduate from high school. Middle school and high school students should continue earning SSL hours towards their SSL graduation requirement by engaging in SSL opportunities during the 2025-2026 school year. Save A Student Summit - 3 SSL Hour Event

The Montgomery County Regional Student Government Association is hosting the Save A Student Summit on January 31, 2026 (10:00 AM - 12:30 PM to teach students about opioid prevention, train them on using Narcan, and hear the announcement of the Speak Up, Save A Life PSA Contest winners. All student participants will earn 3 SSL hours and receive a Narcan kit. RSVP today!  https://tinyurl.com/SaveAStudent26

Counseling: Important College Updates

The Montgomery County Public Schools Counseling Department has many updates to share about upcoming Financial Aid workshops/events throughout the county for students and families to access. MCPS is also hosting the Annual HBCU College Fair on February 13, 2026. You can view more information about both here.

Speak Up, Save A Life PSA Contest- 10 SSL Hours & Prizes

The Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office is hosting a Public Service Announcement (PSA) contest for middle school and high school students that challenges teens to create an original video to promote awareness of the dangers of opioid abuse or overdose and fentanyl among teens. Students earn 10 SSL hours for their complete submission AND the potential to earn up to $5,000 in prizes. Read more here on how to enter.

Community Art Contests

There are several upcoming community art competitions and showcases available for student submissions. These include the Matt Papirmeister Award, the Anthony Quinn Foundation Scholarship program, the Women's Club of Bethesda, the Yellow Barn High School exhibition, and the 2026 WINSTON ART SCHOLARSHIPS & HARRIET LINDNER NEWBILL ART AWARD.
