Johns Hopkins Engineering Innovation: A summer program for high school students  

Kavli "Save the World Through Science and Engineering Video Contest":   

  • Who: Students Grades 6-12
  • What: Students make videos that show how scientific discoveries and inventions can improve our lives and change the world
  • When: Submissions due March 1, 2012 and festival occurs April 28-29
  • Where: Washington D.C.
  • Awards: First Prize $1000 and travel stipend to D.C., Second Prize $750, Third Prize $500, and People's Choice $250, winners will be honored in ceremony hosted by Bill Nye

Marine Science Consortium Internships Rising High School Seniors: Eight week coastal education and leadership program

  • When: June 17-August 12, 2012
  • Where: Marine Science Consortium's Main Campus Wallops Island, VA

Maryland Summer Centers for Gifted and Talented Students: Engage gifted and talented students entering Grades 4-12 in unique program

 Montgomery Parks Longwood Nature Center:

  • Where: Cabin John Regional Park

NASA Sister's Workshop:

  • What: Five day Summer Institute for middle school girls to explore non-traditional career fields
  • Where: Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland
  • When: July 9-13, 2012, 8:30a.m.- 4:00p.m.
  • Cost: Free

National Eye Institute Summer Internships:  

  • Who: Students at least age 16 enrolled in high school or college that have completed course work in biomedical, behavioral, or statistical research and have a cummulative GPA of 3.2 or better
  • When: Applications due March 1, 2012, eight to twelve week internships begin mid-May or mid-July
  • Where: Bethesda campus or Twinbrook facility at Fishers

National Institute of Health Summer Internships: The NIH Summer Intership Program application process has begun for 2012. Looking for highly qualified students from diverse backgrounds that are exremely motivated and passionate about biomedical research. 

  • When: Summer 2012

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Internships

  • Who: Individuals over the age of 15
National Youth Science Camp 2012:  
  • Who: Two high school science students from each state eligible for graduation between June 27, 2012-July 21, 2012
  • When: June 27, 2012-July 21, 2012
  • Where: Monongahela National Forest near Bartow in the eastern mountains of West Virginia, applications due to state delegate no later than February 17, 2012
  • Cost: Free
NOAA Center for Atmospheric Sciences Residential Weather Camp:  
  • Who: High school students interested with high intereste in weather, meteorology, atmospheric sciences, environmental sciences or applied physical sciences (Must be U.S. Citizens)
  • When: July 8-21, 2012, Apply by April 13, 2012
  • Where: Howard University

STEM Education Symposium: The goal of the symposium is to demonstrate to students the advantages of a career in chemistry and to give chemistry teachers tools to enhance their curriculum. High school students must attend with a faculty member.

 

University of Maryland Physics Summer Outreach Program at University of Maryland: Female students with the desire to learn more about physics

  • Open to:Upcoming female and male 9th, 11th and 12th graders

  USA Science and Engineering Festival: Purpose of the festival is to re-invigorate the interest of our nation’s youth in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by producing and presenting a compelling, exciting, educational and entertaining science gathering

  • Open to: Cadettes Grades 7-12

Army Educational Outreach Program Army-sponsored research, education, competitions, internships and practical experiences designed to engage and guide students and teachers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education

 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair is the world's largest pre-college celebration of science held annually in May, the Intel ISEF brings together nearly 1,500 students from more than 40 nations to compete for scholarships, tuition grants, internships, scientific field trips and the grand prize: a $50,000 college scholarship

Real World Design Challenge Annual competition that provides students in grades 9-12 opportunities to participate in real world engineering challenges in a team environment.

Science Montgomery the Montgomery area Science Fair is an Intel ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair) affliliated regional fair and as such is bound by the Rules and Regulations for Intel ISEF. Any student in the Montgomery area, public and private schools, Grades 6-12, may be eligible to participate.
