Academy Programs

International Baccalaureate Diploma Program

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a small learning community that provides highly motivated students an opportunity to pursue a rigorous, comprehensive curriculum based on a global perspective. The IB program, within its nurturing environment, offers an internationally recognized course of study that is designed to prepare students for the university experience. Students are encouraged to participate in the Pre-IB courses beginning in Grade 9. The IB Diploma Program begins in Grade 11.

Broadcast Journalism & Communications Academy

The Broadcast Journalism & Communications Academy prepares students for careers in television, radio, podcasting and other internet-based media. Students receive “hands on” experience running WJFK, Kennedy’s award-winning television station, and is home to the only PBS News Hour lab in Montgomery County.  The PBS News Hour Student Reporting Lab program connects our students to local PBS stations and news professionals in the community to produce original student-generated video reports.  Students also have the opportunity to write news stories, produce shows, and intern with local and national media outlets.

Health Care Professions Academy 

The Health Care Professions Academy provides opportunities that enables students to explore careers in the health care and medical careers industry and to provide skills related to patient care practiced in hospitals and long term facilities. The academy offers two academic pathways where successful students will receive cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with the Maryland Board of Nursing, or certification as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).  

Business Administration and Management Academy

The Business Management Academy prepares students for careers as leaders in domestic and international commerce. Students will learn how to manage workers and lead companies in a global society. Business Management Academy students gain valuable skills in finance, entrepreneurship, visioning, problem-solving, and productivity.

Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC)

The curriculum is divided into academic studies and leadership development. Academics introduce the historical, scientific, and technical aspects specific to each service. Leadership development concentrates on cadet corps activities, drill and ceremonies, improving study habits and time management skills, developing effective communication skills, and learning sound problem-solving techniques. Available only to students attending Kennedy High School.

Teacher Academy of Maryland

In a partnership with Towson University, the Teacher Academy of Maryland prepares students for further education and explores career pathways with an emphasis on careers in education.  Upon successful completion of the program and passing the ParaPro test or Praxis Core, high school graduates are ready for employment in the field of education.  Many of the state of Maryland's colleges and universities offer scholarships for Teacher Academy of Maryland students and they can leave high school having already earned college credit.
