The Academies at John F. Kennedy High School provide for smaller learning communities is an IB World School delivering academic excellence through a variety of high quality educational programs. The Academies are smaller learning communities within high schools that are designed to help students prepare for higher education and explore possible career pathways. The Academies at Kennedy High School focus on community and diversity.

As part of the Downcounty Consortium, JFK offers the following:

Many programs are available at JFK to help students experience academic success. The ACES program creates a seamless pathway from high school to college completion. ACES provides academic coaches to targeted high school students in ten MCPS high schools, at all three Montgomery College campuses, and at the Universities at Shady Grove.
