Earlier this month, students in John F. Kennedy High School’s Broadcast Journalism and Communications Academy earned two Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The honor was given for their story on teacher retention in an October edition of The Sword, the school’s student-produced news magazine show. Kennedy is the only school in MCPS, and the only school in Maryland, to receive this honor during the 2024–2025 school year.

Award recipients include Class of 2025 graduates Esther Dzinedza, Sage Martinez, Chiara Eduardo and Elias Reyes, and current junior Amanda Santiago, who collaborated on these award-winning projects under the guidance of Deborah Wischmann, lead teacher in the Broadcast Journalism and Communications Academy.
