Students in grades 6–12 who are interested in politics and local government and want to know what it is like to serve as a Montgomery County Councilmember are invited to submit entries for Councilmember Will Jawando’s Councilmember for a Day Challenge.

This will be the eighth year for the video essay challenge, which was developed by former Councilmember Craig Rice as a way for youth to lend their voice on public policy issues and engage with local government in enacting change.

Videos should be no more than five minutes long. They should describe a public policy issue students are passionate about and offer ideas on how local government can help. No copyrighted music/images should be used.

The winner will be honored at county council with a proclamation, a $100 gift card and serve as an honorary councilmember on Tuesday, Nov. 28. The deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 27.
