During its regular business meeting on Aug. 24, the Board of Education approved the following administrative appointments:

• Janine G. Bacquie, Director, Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, Office of the Deputy Superintendent
• Holly A. Van Puymbroeck, Supervisor, School Library Media Programs, Department of Pre-K–12 Curriculum, Office of Curriculum and Instructional Programs, Office of the Chief Academic Officer, Office of the Deputy Superintendent
• Yared Velazquez-Guider, Supervisor, Department of English Learners and Multilingual Education, Office of Curriculum and Instructional Programs, Office of the Chief Academic Officer, Office of the Deputy Superintendent

In Memoriam

• Carroll J. Alexander, teacher at Lakelands Park Middle School, died on Aug. 14. He was 72 years old and had worked for MCPS for 11 years.
• James W. Funk, school business administrator at Montgomery Blair High School, died on July 7. He was 63 years old and had more than 17 years of service with MCPS.
• Marilyn Katz, first grade teacher at Carderock Springs Elementary School, died on July 24. She was 64 years old and had nearly 12 years of service with MCPS.
• Susan J. Loftus, teacher at Burning Tree Elementary School, died on Aug. 14. She was 59 years old and had 25 years of service with MCPS.
• Nigel L. Pierre, bus operator at Shady Grove South Transportation Depot, died on June 10. He was 48 years old and had been with MCPS for more than 14 years.
• Monica L. Proctor, school secretary II at John T. Baker Middle School, died on June 22. She was 54 years old and had 16 years of service with MCPS.
• Isaiah C. Thomas, building service worker at Montgomery Village Middle School, died on July 11. He was 23 years old and had been with MCPS for more than four years.
