The MCPS search engine is a Web crawler that scans Web pages and PDF files, reading both words on the page and hidden code. Establishing links to your page is the best way to get listed. The more links there are to your page, the higher your ranking in the search results.

Optimizing PDF Documents

The best way to have PDFs show up in the search results is to create a page with a link to a PDF (see Webmaster Account form or About the Board of Education)

However, you also want to fill in the "TITLE" and "KEYWORD" fields of a PDF document's "Document Properties" as these are used by the search engine to rank results. Acrobat's menu command is "File → Document Properties → Summary."

Enter keywords separated by commas, without spaces, like this:
directions to schools,directions,school locations
