MCPS Classroom Lessons Become Lifesaving Action
On May 22, 2025, Adam Malinauskas, suffered sudden cardiac arrest at home. Drawing on skills she learned at Whitman High School, his daughter Lauren, now a junior, immediately began Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and continued for about 10 minutes until Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews arrived. Medical professionals later shared that Lauren’s quick action and effective CPR were critical to her father’s survival and rapid recovery.
Lauren’s efforts were recognized by MCFRS during the Emergency Medical and Integrated Healthcare Services Award Ceremony on Jan. 5.

“I'm very thankful for this class and especially her teacher Kimberly Weaver who not only taught, but kept my daughter's attention to be ready to take action even when completely unexpected,” Malinauskas said.
Ms. Weaver, health teacher, was recognized during the ceremony along with MCFRS crews from Stations 10, 11 and 52, and Mr. Malinauskas.
