Poolesville Senior Named Finalist in Regeneron Science Competition
Alyssa Yu, a senior at Poolesville High School, has been named one of 40 finalists in the Regeneron Science Talent Search for 2026, one of the nation's most rigorous science and math competitions. She is one of two finalists in the state of Maryland.
Yu’s project is: When Epidemics Meet: Understanding Spatiotemporal Interactions of Two Pathogens on Metapopulation Networks via Reaction-Diffusion Dynamics.
She was one of five MCPS scholars who were among the top 300. They were selected from more than 2,600 applicants across the country. The top 10 winners will be announced in March. The top prize is $250,000.
The Regeneron Science Talent Search is a program of the Society for Science. The competition focuses on identifying, inspiring and engaging the nation’s most promising young scientists who are generating innovative solutions to solve significant global challenges through rigorous research and discoveries.
