Update on Secondary Student Grading
All first marking period report cards are now available in ParentVue. Please check ParentVue to review grades and check for updates to your child’s current second marking period progress. The second marking period ends Friday, Jan. 23, 2026. Interim grades for the second marking period will be available on ParentVue on Friday, Dec. 19.
Final first-semester grades will be calculated using whole-number percentages, which are displayed in ParentVue and on the report card. The MCPS grading system uses traditional rounding principles, meaning a grade must be at the midpoint (X.5) or higher to round up to the next whole number. For example, 89.5% rounds to 90% (A), but 89.1% remains 89% (B).
For example:
If a student’s Marking Period 1 grade rounds from 89.5% to 90 (A) and their Marking Period 2 grade is 92.3% to 92 (A), the semester average will be calculated as (90 + 92) ÷ 2 = 91, resulting in a final semester grade of A.
For the second marking period, summative assessments worth 10% of the marking period grade will be given in the following courses.
