John Glodek named SHAPE Maryland’s Middle School Physical Educator of the Year
John Glodek of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School was named Middle School Physical Educator Teacher of the Year by the Society of Health and Physical Educators Maryland (SHAPE MD). The annual SHAPE Maryland Convention was held in Ocean City, MD on Nov. 15. This year's theme, "Making Waves in Health & PE," celebrates the innovation and impact of educators.
Glodek has taught P.E. at MLK since 2002. Funded by a grant from Outride, one of his classes, Riding for Focus, integrates cycling into the school day. An avid cyclist, Glodek has seen the program help students learn basic skills and build community.
In addition, MCPS Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor was named a Friend of SHAPE. This award is given to school administrators or community leaders who promote, support and advocate for health and physical education programs in school settings.
The Distinguished Advocate for Healthful Living Award was given to Natali Fani-González, Montgomery County Councilmember. This award honors legislators who promote, support and advocate for health and physical education.
