Glen Haven Elementary Honors Military Families with Veterans Day Breakfast

Glen Haven Elementary School welcomed military-connected families for its second annual Purple Star Breakfast Bunch. The event brought together students, families and staff to celebrate service, strengthen connections and enjoy a meal together.

The breakfast is part of Glen Haven’s ongoing commitment to supporting military-connected families. The school offers programming specifically designed to build community among families with military ties. Those efforts have helped establish Glen Haven as Montgomery County Public Schools’ only Purple Star School, a distinction the school earned in April 2025 for its dedication to serving military-connected students.

“Military-connected families experience unique challenges,” said Eric Soskil, assistant principal. “This breakfast helps all military-connected students recognize that they are part of a larger community. It’s an opportunity for families to connect with one another and for our school to recognize their collective efforts and sacrifices.”

Part of Glen Haven’s support network is its Military and Family Life Counselor, Frank Dacunha. Dacunha provides short-term, solution-focused, non-medical counseling to students whose parents are serving on active duty in the National Guard or in the Reserves.

In addition to the Purple Star Breakfast Bunch, Glen Haven will host a larger celebration in April to recognize the Month of the Military Child, continuing its tradition of honoring the resilience and strength of military families.
