On a recent non-instructional day, more than 50 staff members from the Department of Student Support and Attendance Services chose to spend their time giving back to the community. They volunteered with Comfort Cases, a local nonprofit that provides backpacks filled with essentials, and a few special comfort items, for children in foster care and those experiencing homelessness.

“This opportunity allowed staff to engage directly in the process of packing comfort cases for the homeless and foster care students in our school communities,” said Keena Howell, Coordinator of Student Support & Attendance Services.

Together, volunteers helped sort and pack cases that will soon make their way to students and families across Montgomery County. Each case is designed to provide children not only basic necessities but also a sense of dignity and hope during times of transition or crisis.
