Jones Lane Celebrates School Pride and Positivity with Original Music Video

As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, MCPS is highlighting how Ron Morris, principal of Jones Lane Elementary School fosters school pride among students, staff, teachers and the community.
At Jones Lane Elementary School, school pride took center stage with a music video that premiered during the school’s recent prep rally. Designed to boost student morale and confidence ahead of the MCAP assessments, the video brought a unique twist to the school’s traditional pep rally approach.
“We’ve shared videos during past pep rallies, and they’ve always been well received,” said Principal Morris. “But this year, I wanted to do something different, so I wrote a rap and created a music video.”
The inspiration behind the video was the strong sense of community at Jones Lane. “We have the most amazing students, staff and families,” said Morris. “I feel incredibly blessed and extremely fortunate to be the principal of this school, and I hoped the video would reflect and amplify the positive energy we already have here.”
The response was overwhelming, generating a buzz throughout the school. “The staff and students loved it,” said Morris. “Students cheered, one teacher couldn’t wait to show their mom, and some students predicted it would go viral.”
But beyond the excitement of the video lies a strong and intentional culture of support among staff. “Before I officially started as principal, I spent the summer meeting with our staff to learn what they love most about Jones Lane,” Morris reflected. “Again and again, I heard the same thing: the staff here are incredibly supportive of one another.”
Over the past three years, that sentiment has proven true time and time again. “Jones Lane is home to extremely dedicated staff members who truly care about one another and support each other. The staff is very close knit and it feels like a family. I feel blessed to be part of this outstanding family.”
