Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) continued its commitment to supporting families during recent weather closures by distributing grab-and-go meals at 18 locations across the county. As part of MCPS’ emergency weather procedures, these meals were available to children 18 and under, regardless of their enrollment in the school district. Meals were also available for pickup by parents and guardians.
The James Hubert Blake High School student recently completed a festive run performing on "Mariah Carey’s Christmas Time Tour," which hit 20 cities across the U.S.
Wheaton High School’s ceramics class lit up the school’s main office recently with its annual "Celebration of Light." The event featured more than 100 handcrafted lanterns, each a unique creation by students in Jeffrey Wilson’s ceramics class.

La Faye Howard, assistant principal at Winston Churchill High School, has been named the 2025 Assistant Principal of the Year by the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP), in collaboration with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). The 24th Annual After School Dance Fund (ASDF) Baila4Life Latin Dance Competition was a spectacular display of talent and passion as hundreds of Montgomery County students gathered at The Music Center at Strathmore for a day filled with rhythm, energy and dance. Teams from 25 MCPS high schools performed amazing stunts during the 36th annual cheerleading competition on Oct. 26, held at Montgomery Blair High School. Squads were judged on level of difficulty, technique and execution. The competition showcased the talent of the squads and gave fans an opportunity to support the teams.
Vilma Najera was honored at the Hispanic Leadership Awards Gala on Oct. 11. She started working for MCPS in 2001 as a teacher at Watkins Mill.
Nominations are open for several competitions to honor exceptional teachers, supporting services staff and administrators.
