Programs Analysis … Why Are We Doing It?

MCPS is designing a regional model of its academic programs to expand access so that more students—in more parts of the county—can participate in strong programs closer to home. Our goal is to achieve excellence and equity. By expanding regionally, we can reduce barriers such as distance and limited space, while maintaining the rigor and strength of existing programs. Stitch by Stitch: MCPS Students Explore Fashion and Creativity

Fashion is a growing program in the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) visual arts pathway, with roots stretching as far back as the early 2000s, according to Anjali Wells, content specialist for PreK-12 Visual Art and Dance. This year, MCPS offers two courses, Fashion Illustration and Fashion Production, in nine high schools, nearly doubling since 2022. Read more.

Stronger Background Checks, Fingerprinting and Badging Underway

The safety of our students and staff always comes first. The recent report from the Montgomery County Office of the Inspector General made clear that background check procedures had not been as strong or consistent as they needed to be. We agree with those findings, and we are acting quickly to correct these issues and catch up. This work has begun across the district. Learn more.

Next Round of Boundary Study Options Meetings Set for October

The MCPS community is invited to participate in upcoming public information meetings for the reopening of Charles W. Woodward High School boundary study and the opening of Crown High School and the expansion of the Damascus High School boundary study. In these sessions, the next round of proposed boundary options for the 2027-2028 school year will be presented, including accompanying maps, articulation patterns, data tables and an interactive map tool.
