Foreign Student Programs

MCPS offers two enrollment opportunities for international students ages 15–17 who are seeking student visas, as well as options for students living in Montgomery County without their parents.

Please review the options below:

1. Exchange Students (J-1 Visa) – Cultural Experience

Students with a J-1 visa participate in a cultural exchange program but do not receive academic credit.

  • Students must apply through a CSIET-approved exchange organization in their home country or country of residence
  • The organization coordinates with MCPS and arranges a host family
  • All payments are made directly to the exchange organization, not MCPS
  • Academic credit is not awarded (no transcript upon exit)
  • Maximum grade level for participation: 11th grade

2. Student Visa (F-1 Visa) – Academic Program

Students with an F-1 visa may enroll in MCPS for academic credit and will receive an official MCPS transcript.

Tuition: Approximately $20,200 USD for a full school year (semester or full-year options available). Tuition must be paid before the I-20 application is issued.

Eligibility:

  • Ages 15–17
  • Strong academic performance
  • TOEFL score of at least iBT 76 or PBT 540

Enrollment periods:

  • Full year: April 15 – June 30
  • Second semester: October 15 – December 15

Admission is based on grade level and school availability.  Maximum placement: 11th grade.
