Recovery and Academic Program (RAP)

Montgomery County Public Schools has partnered with JSSA to connect youth with academic and substance use recovery support services. Balancing academic requirements as well as the unique needs of substance use requires a different approach. This is where RAP comes in. RAP provides Montgomery County youth with free, comprehensive services to address both academic and recovery needs. RAP helps students continue working toward graduation in a safe and supportive environment during the day while learning the necessary skills needed to maintain sobriety in the afternoons and evenings. The program is a highly individualized approach for each student who participates. Once enrolled, adolescents may continue to participate until high school graduation. Referrals to RAP are accepted from MCPS, juvenile county resources, and other non-profit agencies.

WHEN ENROLLING AT RAP

Students will receive:

  • comprehensive academic instruction, recovery, social recreational, and vocational support they need.
  • support in developing academic and career goals to transition to their next steps in life.
  • behavioral health staff who work directly with students to understand needs and formulate a plan to maximize RAP offerings.

***Note: a student remains enrolled at their home school. They may have access to certain activities and events on a case-by-case basis.

HOW TO MAKE A REFERRAL

Students may be referred to RAP by a parent/guardian/caregiver, MCPS staff, or a healthcare, substance use treatment or mental health provider.
Are you interested in starting a referral?

  1. Contact your school’s mental health staff for a RAP application
  2. A required intake interview will be scheduled
  3. Families will be notified of the determination and next steps regarding enrollment
