SMOB Updates
Happy new year MCPS! Hana O'Looney, your Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB) here. It's hard to believe, but we have already reached that point in the school year where the election process for the next Student Member of the Board of Education is beginning. If you are interested in holding this position next year, please scan and email the very quick, simple, and easy forms found in SMOB election protocols document to Shella_B_Cherry@mcpsmd.org between January 4th and January 27th at 5 pm. If you have any questions about the process, check out this link with lots of information or send me an email at Hana_O'Looney@mcpsmd.org.
Additionally, I want to clarify that there is no plan to close all MCPS schools, however, there are guidelines for possible individual school closures. As we continue to monitor COVID-19 cases in our school buildings, if 5% or more of unrelated students/teachers/staff test positive in a 14-day period, a determination will be made as to whether the school should be closed for 2 weeks and transition to virtual instruction. In the meantime, please report all positive COVID-19 cases through this google form and also have your parents consent to in-school COVID-19 testing through this form.
Finally, enjoy your additional half days this year on January 12, March 24, and May 18th! MCPS and the Board of Education have recognized the difficulties this year has brought for students and staff, and we wanted to provide some relief as we continue through this year.
All the best,
Hana O'Looney
Student Member of the Board of Education
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
