Assistant School Administrator (Elementary, Middle, & High School)

Description

The Office of Human Resources and Development will accept applications from current MCPS employees for the Assistant School Administrator Pool beginning February 1, 2021 through March 1, 2021.

Summary Description

Under direction of the principal, works in a team effort with administration and staff. Assists in monitoring student discipline, parent/community outreach, administering and supervising of all student related school activities.  Conducts staff observations, but does not evaluate teachers.  This is an 11-month position.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of MCPS policies and procedures, school operations and pupil services.  Knowledge of behavioral management techniques and conflict resolution.  Knowledge of system resources and services available to parents and students.  Knowledge of computer applications desirable.  Ability to communicate effectively, motivate, encourage, and work with students, staff and community.  Excellent problem solving skills.  Excellent organizational, oral, written and human relations skills required.  Demonstrated leadership skills outside the classroom.

 

Education, Training and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; master's degree desirable
  • Five years of successful teaching experience; at least one of those years must be in MCPS
  • Three years of school-based leadership experience or central services administrator/central services instructional specialist experience
  • Observing and Analyzing Teaching I (preferred)

AP/ASA Applicant Pool Process

The application process consists of the following:

  • An initial screening is conducted of all of the required documents that are submitted.  This includes the letter of interest, resume, and 3 letters of recommendation.  See detailed information below.
  • Applicants who meet the initial screening requirements will be invited to join the Assistant School Administrator Pool.

 

ASA Pool Checklist

To be considered for the ASA Pool, you must apply to the "Applicant Pool - Assistant School Administrator" on the MCPS Careers site and attach to your MCPS Careers profile the following:

  • Letter of interest, including level (elementary, middle, or high), addressed to the Associate Superintendent, Office of Human Resources and Development
  • Resume demonstrating education, training, at least three years of successful leadership experience, and a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
  • Certificate from Observing and Analyzing Teaching I (preferred).  Note: Once appointed to an Assistant Principal or Assistant School Administrator position, it is necessary to either take the OAT1 course or make sure that your recertification of OAT1 is current.  Individuals who completed OAT1 more than three years prior must participate in a recertification session (PDO course #52101).
  • Two reference forms from principals and supervisors (one must be from current principal/supervisor).  Note: Use MCPS form 445-26 for references.  All references must be emailed directly to the Administrative Staffing Department at AdminStaffing@mcpsmd.org by the person completing the reference form.  Please submit reference forms only after you have applied on MCPS Careers
