MCPSRA SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Interfaith Works Partnership

Donations

MCPSRA has partnered with Interfaith Works (IW), a nonprofit that provides services for people experiencing homelessness and poverty in our Montgomery County community. IW provides emergency shelter, supportive housing, employment programs, food, clothing, and emergency financial assistance to 35,000 people every year. Every year, the Board of Directors selects a project to serve our clients directly.
This year, the IW Board of Directors is fundraising to improve the sleeping area at the IW Women’s Center at Crabbs Branch during the shelter’s upcoming renovation. The shelter has expanded to care for more women (50 - 10, over capacity), and your support will create a sleeping area with more privacy along with new beds and secure individual storage cabinets.
The QR code below will enable you to make a donation. No amount is too small...and 100% of your donation goes directly to fund the renovation project.
As a final incentive, MCPSRA will match your donation. So please let us know when you make the donation so we can match it.
Thanks for opening your heart and wallet to our sisters and friends who find themselves in the unenviable position of seeking temporary shelter.

In person volunteer opportunity

MCPSRA partners with Interfaith Works (IW), a non-profit organization located in Rockville, MD. Our group will be tasked with unpacking, sorting, and hanging gently worn infant, children’s, and adult-sized men/women's clothing in the IW Boutique. IW provides food, shelter, household goods, and clothing to over 20,000 community members.

The date of our next sorting event is To Be Determined. Please consider signing up to volunteer at Interfaith Works, 751 Twinbrook Parkway, Rockville, MD

Volunteers attend a brief 10 minutes orientation after signing in at the main lobby.  There is plenty of parking and restrooms available. Please feel free to bring a small snack and water. Wear comfortable close-toe shoes for standing, and please ask, chairs are provided if needed.

Please RSVP to: judy.mills549@gmail.com

Thank you to all our MCPSRA members who continue to make our volunteer program a success.

Please note: Interfaith Works will be closed if MCPS closes schools.

We appreciate your support!

 - Park in the large parking lot located at the right-facing side of the building, beyond the loading dock and ‘bus/carpool circle’ (former Middleschool building). The main entrance is up a wide set of stairs and through the double doors, there is an accessible ramp, too.

MCPS Elementary Schools

This year we are giving back to identified MCPS Elementary Schools health rooms identified as benefiting from (new and unworn) underwear, socks, sweatpants, and leggings.
Generally speaking, Elementary age boys and girls wear size 4 – 16 in grades P-K through Grade 5. Therefore we are asking for new w/tags or in a sealed package
any style or size:

  • Boys’ or Girls’ Underwear/Panties
    Boys’ or Girls’ socks
    Boys’ or Girls’ pull-on Sweatpants
    Girls’ Leggings
Boys’ or Girls’ pull on knit or athletic shorts for warmer weather

There are several ways to participate in this Service Project which ends June 12, 2025.
 Drop off during each MCPSRA Luncheon or In-person Event
 Order online and ship to MCPSRA c/o Judy Mills, 11205 Maine Cove Drive, North Potomac, MD 20878

The volume of donated items will guide the number of drop-offs, with the culminating drop-offs after June 12th to benefit summer school programs. Members will be kept apprised of our successes in future MCPSRA Newsletters.
