The Department of Educational Technology (DET) leads the selection, integration, training, and support of innovative technologies for our schools and offices to ensure operational excellence and staff productivity.

To work closely with schools and offices in order to design and deliver high-quality professional development on the integration of technology into teaching, learning, and operations.

Joel Smetanka, Supervisor
This team serves as the bridge between complex infrastructure and the classroom experience. They design and manage the deployment of instructional hardware and software, ensuring that online tools and devices work seamlessly within the district’s environment. Beyond system integrations, the teams provides creative and efficent technology solutions that support system operations.
John Garrett, Supervisor
The Technology Innovation, Modernization, and Management Office plays a central role in Montgomery County Public Schools’ strategic technology plan, Educational Technology for 21st Century Learning. The office advances four core goals: empowering students to actively engage in learning through technology; ensuring equitable access to close the digital divide; strengthening staff technology skills through ongoing professional development; and leveraging technology to enhance productivity and outcomes.
