All Cohort 1 Schools implementing new curriculum continue to receive professional development throughout the fall, including trainings addressing specific specializations with the new curriculum resources and materials specific to ESOL, special education, enrichment. Fall professional development trainings are scheduled for elementary and middle school English Language Arts (ELA) and Math teachers through November 2019.
All Cohort 1 School spring professional development trainings have successfully been completed by all school leads and teachers. Summer professional development trainings are scheduled for elementary and middle school English Language Arts (ELA) and Math teachers from June through August 2019.

MCPS is beginning the implementation of a three year roll-out of curricular and instructional materials and supports for elementary and middle English Language Arts (ELA) and Math to maintain high levels of teaching and learning for all students. Parent and community members are encouraged to come learn more from MCPS staff and the new curriculum vendors about what will be implemented in our schools. There will be a presentation of both the ELA and Math curricular and instructional materials and supports and an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.
The Montgomery County Board of Education on Tuesday (February 12) unanimously approved the purchase of Benchmark Advance by Benchmark Education Company, LLC as the prekindergarten through Grade 5 English Language Arts curricular and instructional materials and resources and support for professional development.
The recommended finalist for PreK-5 Literacy is Benchmark Advance by Benchmark Education Company, LLC.
The recommendation will be presented to the Board of Education for action at the Board meeting on February 12, 2019, when more detail about the process and the strong merits of the materials selected will be shared. Please note that these final recommendations are contingent on Board of Education approval and successful contract negotiations with each of the vendors.
