The Montgomery County Board of Education is engaged in a nationwide search for the next superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools. The Board’s most important responsibility is selecting a highly-qualified superintendent to lead a district of more than 160,000 students from diverse backgrounds.

The process includes robust community engagement including community forums, stakeholder interviews and focus groups, surveys, and additional feedback opportunities.

Use this general feedback form to share your thoughts about the qualities needed in a new superintendent.

About the Search

Community Engagement

It is important for our community to be involved in the search for a new superintendent. Our community gathered for meetings and forums, and completed an online survey to share our thoughts. People talked about what kind of person they want as superintendent and what important things they think the new leader should focus on.

All the ideas we gathered help guide the board as they pick the best person for the job.

The Search Process

Greenwood, Asher, & Associates, LLC will be conducting the nationwide search in partnership with the MCPS Board of Education.

By Maryland state law, county school superintendent appointments must be finalized by July 1 for Maryland State Department of Education approval and appointment for the upcoming school year. The Board of Education is fully committed to conducting a thorough search until we find a highly-qualified candidate who meets our leadership profile.
