Leul Dawit, a rising junior at Northwood High School, will be installed as the 49th Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB) on July 6.
During his term, Mr. Dawit plans to focus heavily on improving direct communication between students and county leadership, ensuring student concerns are clearly addressed and pushing for reform, change, and evolution across the community. He remains deeply dedicated to expanding advocacy networks and amplifying the everyday work and needs of his peers.
Mr. Dawit succeeds Anuva Maloo, a 2026 graduate of Montgomery Blair High School. The Board will recognize Maloo’s outstanding service at the July 6 ceremony.
The SMOB installation ceremony will take place July 6, 4:00 p.m. at 15 W. Gude Drive. The ceremony is open to the public, with limited seating. It will also be livestreamed on the MCPS website and broadcast live on Comcast Channel 34, Verizon FIOS Channel 36, and RCN Channel 89.
