    The Walter Johnson Academic Support Center (ASC) provides assistance to students with special needs. The Academic Support Center includes programs for Aspergers, GT/LD, Learning and Academic Disabilities, Learning for Independence and Resource.

    The Academic Support Center is in Suite 159. Enter WJ through the Main Entrance and sign-in at the Main Office. Exit the Main Office, turn right and follow the hallway. Turn left when you reach the hallway intersection and the entrance to the Academic Support Center will be at the end of the hall on the left. All visitors to WJ MUST sign-in at the Main Office before proceeding to other parts of the building.

    Gifted and Talented/Learning Disabilities

    This model provides rigorous instruction in the students' area of strength while providing adaptations and accommodations in the areas of skill that are affected by their disability.

    Learning and Academic Disabilities

    This model serves students with learning and academic disabilities by utilizing a program that may include components of self-contained classes, co-taught general education classes, and supported classes.

    Learning for Independence (LFI)

     

    Learning for Independence (LFI) emphasizes individualized student learning in school and community sites. These classes serve students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and/or multiple disabilities. These students learn functional life skills and basic academics in the context of general school environments and in community settings. The students are often included in general education learning environments with adapted curriculum.
