When students take Advanced Placement (AP) college-level courses and exams, they have the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. Students who take AP courses will be immersed in a rigorous, college-level classroom experience with certified College Board teachers who are passionate about their subjects and demonstrate continued commitment to meeting the needs of their pupils.

Examination Process

The AP Examinations are administered each year in May and represent the culmination of college-level work in a given discipline in a secondary school level. Rigorously developed by committees of college and AP high school faculty, the exams test students' ability to perform at a college level.

The end product of the AP Exams is the AP grades that are reported to students, their schools, and their designated colleges in July. The colleges use these grades as evidence of the students' abilities and achievements when they make their decision regarding whether or not to grant credit and/or advanced placement. The fee for each exam is $89. Fee reductions are available pending qualification.

The AP grade scale ranges from 5 to 1:
5 = Extremely Well Qualified
4 = Well Qualified
3 = Qualified
2 = Possibly Qualified
1 = No Recommendation

AP Exam Registration

Registration season is upcoming, and we have a few updates. As we wait for the county to finalize the payment fees and prices, we are moving forward with the waiver form.

We are encouraging all students/families to complete the waiver form in its entirety, even if they are not sure if they are going to take the test. The waiver form should be completed and submitted as soon as possible, preferably by Friday, October 7th.

Some important details:

  • Upon qualification the waiver form provides a price reduction for the AP exam; even if you don't think the student might qualify, please complete the form
  • We are breaking down the process because we are using a new financial management system that has the power to assign obligations and notify you (parents) once an event is created; collecting these waivers before creating the "bill" should give us time to preload the correct prices
  • This is not the registration form
