Artist in Residence

Each year, CCES students are offered the opportunity to do as the artists do.  Storytellers, musicians and magicians captivate the children’s attention and enrich their education.  The CCES Educational Foundation, in collaboration with the PTA, provides an Artist in Residence program for each grade level.  A sample of programs includes:

  • 3rd grade Singer Songwriter Residency:  Students learn the lyric and melodic elements of creating songs, and collectively write their own songs which they perform for their parents.
  • 4th grade Mime Residency:  Students learn about the history and language of mime, and incorporate various techniques and concepts in a creative performance for their parents.
  • 5th grade Playwriting Residency:  Students are introduced to the elements of dramatic writing through in-class writing exercises and demonstrations. Each student develops a one-act play, several of which are selected and performed for parents.
  • 6th grade Comic Book Arts Residency:  Students are introduced to the history of comics and their role in cultural society, and learn methods of layout, design and story development. Groups of students create their own comic strips to be collected into a final "book."
